OMG I’ve been having the same conversation with a friend about this for weeks. The same rhetoric dragged out all the time. Nothing different, nothing compelling. I need to share this post somehow. So well said.
1000%! Sometimes I think we're so focused on delivering the perfect sustainability message that we forget the realities of human nature. Honestly, I think a good place to start is with ourselves. If we think about our own shopping habits, what draws us to certain brands (fashion-related or otherwise), and why, I think we could really move the needle in a big way in terms of how we communicate sustainability, how we resonate with consumers, and how we STAND OUT.
As for sustainability 'experts,' we've got a lot of cooks in the kitchen but not many people actually making meals, ha! 👀
Thanks so much for your comment. 🙏🏾 I'm so glad the article resonated with you! 🤓
I've been trying to not buy anything new for about a year --- big fan of secondhand shopping, been using some fun tools to make it easier like the chrome extension that finds me resale alternatives for the items I'm looking at as I shop bit.ly/Phia
This is brilliant! Thank you 🫶🏼 for context I work in the industry and my preferred consumption choices are via more sustainable fashion options - the sentiments you shared feel so spot on. The reality is the majority of consumers want aspiration and connection more than they want to save the planet at present, and for brands, it’s no longer enough to rely on ‘sustainable’ as your only marketing lever. I’ll be taking this concept to my desk tomorrow! 🥰
And it’s not just brands. It’s sustainability ‘experts’ too
